The Amazon Swim World Record Attempt

Martin Strel, a legendary Guinness record marathon swimmer, has always been looking for the challenges of impossible, and the Amazon is going to be the next one. On Feb 1st 2007, Strel started swimming all the way from Atalaya (Peru) to the Atlantic Ocean at Belem (Brazil). He is planning to complete the 3,375 mile (5,430 km) ultimate challenge in 70 days.

Disclaimer: The map tracks Strel's support vessel and may not always reflect the actual route of the swimmer. Due to difficult conditions on the ground and other technical constraints, the expedition's position is usually updated with a delay of up to 24 hours.

How Martin's Progress is Tracked

Two Sony GPS receivers are used to track Martin's support team at all times. The GPS receivers store their exact position every 15 seconds. The GPS track log and all photos taken by Martin's team are then visualized using the TripTracker.net web service.
